VISION

VISION SCRIPTURE

"And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in."

Isaiah 58:12

WELCOME TO ST. JOHN'S CHAPEL

Built in 1891 by a group of Trustees in the nearby Villages of Fairbank and Barneck, St. John's Chapel  has roots extending back over 133 years. It was founded as a small Methodist congregation at the southern end of Tilghman's Island, Maryland. It served all residents of the Island, but particularly those residing in the villages of Fairbank and Bar Neck.  It remained active until the 1970's. Friends of St. John's Chapel was formed to maintain and preserve the historic Chapel, grounds and cemetery. Today, the church is once again active and in addition to the non-denominational Sunday morning service on Sundays, hosts a traditional Homecoming, Christmas Eve, and Easter Sunrise service.

ABOUT OUR CHURCH

A visit to St. John's is like stepping back in time, with its tin ceiling and walls and original stained glass windows.  The chapel boasts a working bell tower with simple clapboard exterior and the peaceful "Joy's Garden" for meditation.
